Why are you doing this?
Voting in elections is the most powerful means citizens have of shaping our national life. But millions of people who are registered to vote, including some of those most affected by unjust government policies, will not show up at the polls on November 2nd. The "Vote ALL Your Values" campaign will contact voters to encourage as many as possible to vote on November 2nd. The campaign is entirely non-partisan, but targets people from local income or minority communities whose voices are often ignored in our political process. We believe we have a responsibility to encourage and enable them to vote both to ensure that their views are taken into account, and to improve the health of our democracy and nation.

Does calling people make any difference?
Research done on past "Get Out The Vote" drives shows that calling people significantly increases voter turnout. The effect is most powerful when voters are called on more than one occasion, including on the election day itself; and if the caller is able to establish a personal connection with the voter - that’s what you should be aiming for. Calling also helps in simpler, logistical ways by helping identify people who need a ride to the polls, or who don't know where their polling station is.

Who is sponsoring this volunteer/voter GOTV drive?
"Vote ALL Your Values" is a non-partisan, faith-based campaign coordinated and funded by a large coalition of moderate and progressive faith-based groups. It is supported by "National Voice", a non-partisan, non-profit organization helping promote voting and other forms of civic participation.

Who am I going to be calling?
You will be calling registered voters living in predominantly low income, minority communities across America.

Where did all these phone numbers come from?
All the information on voters in our database has been obtained from public voter records and checked to ensure it is up to date and accurate.

You will be calling registered voters living in predominantly low income, minority communities across America.

Where can I make phone calls from?
You can call from any phone, any where in the United States. You will want to call from somewhere that you have access to the web so you can use this site to get phone numbers and record information about the calls you make. You can disconnect from the internet while you make a call if you need to. But you will need to re-connect again after completing the calls to submit information about how the call went. If you do need to disconnect from the internet when making calls, please click on the “Calling without a computer?” link in the navigation bar on the left of the page.

How many phone calls should I make?
You should aim to make as many, or as few, calls as you are able. While it is important to try to contact as many voters as possible, you should aim to make a real connection with each person you speak to, to ensure that he or she is willing and able to vote on November 2nd. If you feel you need a bit of time to make that connection, you should feel right doing that and not just trying to call as many people as possible.

How long should each phone call take?
Each complete call should take you no more than a 2 or 3 minutes. If you strike up a good rapport with the person you have called you should feel comfortable talking for longer, particularly if you judge that it may help encourage the person to vote or even persuade some of his/her friends to vote.

What do I do if the person is not there?
If you are able to leave a message – either on an answering machine or with someone else at the number – please state briefly why you called and say that you, or a fellow volunteer will call again. At the bottom of the screen where the call script is displayed is a box where you can enter what happened on a call for which the person was not there, the options are “left message”, “no message left” or “wrong/bad number”.

What do I do if I have to speak to someone other than the person I was trying to contact?
First ask to speak to the person you are trying to contact. If he or she is not there leave a short message explaining briefly why you called and ask if it would be okay if you, or a fellow volunteer called again. If the person you are speaking to sounds interested in what you are doing, please try to encourage them to go and vote as well – however, do NOT record the person’s answers to your questions on the call script, instead make a note of the conversation in the “notes” section at the bottom of the script. At the bottom of the screen where the call script is displayed is a box where you can enter what happened on a call for which the person was not there, the options are “left message”, “no message left” or “wrong/bad number”.

What do I do if the person does not want to be called?
You should respect the person’s desire not to be called. At the bottom of the screen where the call is script is displayed is a box where you should note that the person is “Not Interested – Don’t Call”.

What happens to information you record about the person needing assistance on November 2nd or information about voting?
Any information you record about a person’s need for assistance on November 2nd or information about voting will be passed by us to a non-partisan “Get Out The Vote” group working in the area where that person lives. They will ensure that the needs you identify are met.

How much time should I expect to commit if I volunteer?
You can commit as much, or as little, time as you feel you able to give to this campaign. Obviously, the more time you are able to call voters, the more likely you are to be able to increase voter turnout on November 2nd.

Are my phone calls tax-deductible?
We're sorry, but they are not.

What will I be doing as a volunteer?
As a volunteer, you will call voters in low income, minority communities encouraging them to exercise their right to vote on November 2nd and checking if they need any help on election day - a ride to the poll, child care etc.

I'm already part of a non-partisan 'get out the vote' campaign. Can I still volunteer?
Absolutely. It doesn't matter what else you are doing in terms of "Get Out The Vote" or any other election related effort, we would love to have you as a part of this campaign.

Could my friends in that campaign volunteer?
Absolutely. It doesn't matter what else you, or your friends, are doing in terms of "Get Out The Vote" or any other election related effort, we welcome any committed person to the campaign.

I'm already part of a partisan get out the vote campaign. Can I still volunteer?
Yes, we would love to have you as part of the campaign. However, you must remember that this is a non-partisan campaign and when you call voters as part of this campaign you must be 100% non-partisan.

Is there a minimum age requirement for volunteers?
No. However, you are more likely to be effective when calling a voter if you are able to connect with them on a personal about the importance of the election. If you are under 18 and therefore not an eligible voter, you may find it more difficult to make this kind of connection.

Is there a minimum time commitment for volunteers?
No. As a volunteer you can give as much, or as little, time as you are able. However, the more time you are able to give, the more effective you are likely to be, not only in terms of the number of voters you will be able to contact, but also because you will become better at connecting with voters as you become more practiced.

Do I need to be a registered voter and/or citizen to volunteer?
No - we would love to have you as part of the campaign. However, you are more likely to be effective when calling a voter if you are able to connect with them on a personal about the importance of the election. If you are not able to vote yourself, you may find it more difficult to persuade a reluctant voter to do so. On the other hand, you may feel more motivated to encourage people to vote precisely because you are unable to yourself.
